EX-VOTO, 2009
Books, fabric, wood and string
120 X 80 X 20cm
This work is based on the tradition of putting Ex-voto in churches and chapel as votive offering to god or a saint.
This is a very personal take as I am using prayers books and novels as well as
more personal titles linked to my own self history. The rope and the coffin-like case
disturb the softness of the pillow. The piece opens a dialogue between the idea of protection of prayers and faith and the limitations and
obligations that beliefs create for the individual. Trying to reconcile
faith and freedom has often chaotic results.
